One jewelry company has decided to lead the way in sustainable jewelry packaging and has been recognized for their efforts to protect the environment. Chakra Jewel, an online jewelry company, received a green ribbon from Redirect Guide, the healthy and sustainable lifestyle directory, for creating sustainable packaging that is both earth friendly and beautiful.
Why should a jewelry company go out of their way to not only design but also create custom made jewelry packages? Donna Cook, owner of Chakra Jewel, had this to say. “The enormous waste involved in packaging has reached drastic levels. From toys and fashion to food, medical and high tech industries, we are all wrapped up in plastic. Whenever we purchase goods that are packaged green, we exercise our influence towards a sustainable earth. As the owner and product designer of Chakra Jewel, I decided to support a sustainable earth by creating a new kind of packaging for our chakra jewelry.”
The standards for creating the packaging for the jewelry were very strict. This was the criterion that she followed:
1. Very limited or no use of plastic.
2. Must employ recycled paper from a responsible paper mill.
3. Compliment the jewelry.
4. Made from sustainable materials.
After a lot of thought and work they came up with an ideal way to package their unique chakra jewelry. The chakra necklace is packaged on a card of hand-made papers containing real flowers. The ivory card stock underneath is 100% recycled paper from the Mohawk Paper Mill, which is wind powered. The message inside the card makes the jewelry more meaningful and lends itself to tucking away instead of throwing away and the paper it’s printed on is from a local printer who also utilizes wind power for their electrical needs.
Each chakra pendant or necklace is nestled in it’s very own pouch made from 100% cotton muslin as apposed to the standard synthetic polyester gift bags that are routinely used in the jewelry industry. The total packaging leaves the slightest footprint possible on the planet Earth while still providing a stunning presentation.
The results are award winning. Not only is it earth conscious, the packaging used for Donna’s chakra earrings, necklaces, and other healing crystal jewelry is itself beautiful and memorable.
