The sixth chakra resides in the forehead between the eyes.  It is associated with the color indigo.

Stone:  Matte Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan with faceted apatite

Description:  The finest lapis in the world comes out of Afghanistan, which is the case with our matte lapis.  Intentionally finished without a high gloss, it has been left in a more natural state.  The brilliant blue color is characterized by flecks of golden pyrite and white quartz.  Historically, the earliest blue paint was made by grinding lapis into dust and adding fat as a binder.  The color it produces is knows as ultramarine.  As a gemstone, lapis was treasured by the ancient Egyptians among others.  Lapis is also found parts of Russia, and in 1720, a Russian palace was built for Catherine the First, which included a ballroom with solid lapis walls.  

Chakra information:  It is thought that we have two eyes that look out at the world, and a third eye that sees within, hence the chakra located in the center of the forehead is called the third eye chakra.  Having a "sixth sense" is a statement that connects to this chakra.  Clear mindedness, insight, mental focus and memory are held in this place.  When in balance, this chakra allows us to become the  observer, being nonjudgemental without submitting to social pressures to conform. Letting go of the drama and need to control, allows us to follow our intuition in the quest to finding greater purpose in life.
