The third chakra is also called the core chakra. Just as the sun is the center of the solar system, the third or core chakra is the center of your chakra system.  Located in the center of the body, the emotions of this chakra are highly stimulated by the color yellow.  Core chakra energy whips up feelings of confidence, determination, discipline and the breath of life (Prana).  It is the voice inside you that says, I Can. People who are balanced and comfortable in their third chakra are tremendously successful simply because self confidence is a magnet for others.

Imbalances in this area exhibit as self criticism, lack of confidence, helplessness, or powerless victim.  Issues around overindulging in eating/drinking etc., are often used to cover an imbalanced core chakra.  Common terms such as: My stomach is doing flip flops, my stomach is all tied up in knots or I have butterflies in my stomach exemplify how emotions related to self confidence and fear are held in the third chakra.

In the case of an overactive third chakra, traits such as bullying, delusion, unchecked ambition, paranoia and fear are displayed. Terms for an overactive third chakra would include: abuse of power, overbearing, pushy, power hungry, or being full of themselves.

Meditation for balancing your core chakra:  Take a deep breath that fills not just your lungs, but the entire area of the solar plexis.  Your ribcage will rise, while the muscles around it tighten.  Just underneath your ribcage is the solar plexis, literally your inner sun.  You have now uncovered your third chakra.  Allow your posture to change as you draw strength from your midsection.  Focus your awareness to your solar plexis and picture your own little sun burning brightly in the center of your body.  As you let your inner sun shine forth, it naturally radiates to others, and they are instantly attracted to you.  Experiment by wearing the color yellow and note if your behavior changes because you're feeling more extroverted.  Life can be daunting.  Trust your inner sun.
